When we think of braces, we automatically think of the clunky, metal braces that have long been the traditional form of straightening crooked teeth during your teenage years. However, in recent years we have seen a new solution come to light in the form of Invisalign. As one of the most renowned manufacturers of clear braces, Invisalign specialise in teeth straightening solutions that are not only comparatively more comfortable than traditional braces, but also much nicer on the eye.
How long does the treatment take?
You could achieve your desired results relatively quickly, and much faster than traditional braces, with Invisalign. Traditional braces focus on your mouth function and bite, taking longer to achieve the optimum results. These aren’t an uninterrupted few years, however, as readjustments will need to be carried out by your dentist. Teens are known to shy away from braces because they don’t want to still be receiving treatment as they near university, wanting straight teeth but not wanting years of uncomfortable commitment to achieve them.
Invisalign, on the other hand, can address bite issues but is particularly effective at straightening your cosmetic smile. This means that your smile can become more uniform in a much shorter period of time, because we’re merely guiding teeth into a different position. Not only does Invisalign improve your cosmetic smile, but it also corrects bite issues too.
Are Invisalign comfortable to wear?
One of the most well-known attributes of braces is the pain and discomfort they cause. Because of their fixed nature, they relentlessly pull and tug on your teeth to drive them into a more aligned position. Through glued-down brackets and wires, they begin their rather harsh treatment of your treatment almost from day one. Even your mouth’s soft tissues suffer, with the wires and brackets brushing against them and irritating them. Comparatively, Invisalign are far more comfortable than traditional braces because they use very gradual forces to guide your teeth into set every few weeks, ushering them into position at a pace to suit you rather than stubbornly pushing and pulling like braces.
Are they removable?
Traditional braces are, again very famously, fused to your teeth using dental glue. Because they’re fixed, they limit your diet choices and sometimes cut out your favourite foods. Chewy foods like toffee get stuck in your braces and could possibly break them, but also innocuous foods can get stuck in them and look unattractively lumpy. Invisalign, however, are removable and not fixed at all! You can take them out to eat, brush your teeth, and even for the occasional social event as long as you wear them for around 22 hours a day. Your treatment journey won’t be interrupted, and you can live life to the fullest!
