Braces for adults

YOUR SMILE, PERFECTED

At Loughborough Orthodontic and Implant Clinic, we give our patients a range of braces to choose from to meet their dental needs. The market-leading clear brace is Invisalign – a game-changing development in smile-correction dentistry. Clear braces are more convenient than metal braces and come with a number of important advantages, but fixed braces still have their place, especially for more complicated remedies.

As well as Invisalign, we also offer invisible lingual braces, which are affixed to the hidden rear of your teeth rather than the front, and traditional fixed braces too, with their wire and bracket design.

FAQs

Invisalign braces are a series of clear, removable trays, custom-designed by 3D technology to fit your teeth. The trays apply pressure to your teeth and jaws, correcting their alignment over time. Invisalign trays are smooth and comfortable, and present no risk of injury – there are no wires or rough edges that could develop into a protrusion, and the trays are designed to be removed when playing sport.

Invisalign are the ultimate in convenience, removable when eating, drinking, or involved in intense physical activity. Easy to clean, Invisalign won’t get clogged up with food debris and have no impact on your diet. Lastly, Invisalign trays are a good option for those who wish to keep their smile correction treatment to themselves – the trays are discreet, barely visible even when face to face.

It’s true that Invisalign braces can address most alignment problems, but they are not as effective as fixed braces when it comes to the most severe or complex bite issues. Invisalign trays are designed to be removed, and as a result are only in the mouth for 20-22 hours a day, taking longer to achieve results. Aligners can be lost, and can become discoloured if you eat, drink, or smoke while wearing them. In short, Invisalign are a great solution for the patient with personal discipline, and whose bite and alignment issues are not at the most severe end of the scale.

Lingual braces are fitted to the back of the teeth, making them the most discreet, fixed orthodontic solution on the market. Using a metal wire and bracket system, lingual braces are able to fix any type of malocclusion including gapped or crowded teeth, and bite issues such as an overbite, underbite, cross bite, or open bite.

Because of the way lingual braces are fitted, your teeth will be fully visible throughout treatment, enabling you to see changes as they happen over time. Unlike Invisalign, lingual braces apply continual pressure to the teeth and jaws, achieving quicker results than removable aligners. As lingual braces are fixed, you can’t lose or forget to wear them.

Most patients experience minimal discomfort and interference with their speech, and after just a short period of adjustment, you will be able to eat and speak normally. Lingual braces present no risk of decalcification to the front of your teeth, and because they are made from gold alloy, nickel allergies are not a factor.

Metal fixed braces are efficient and precise. Sometimes known as train tracks or silver braces, fixed braces in Loughborough consist of metal brackets and wires which are bonded to the teeth. The glue won’t damage your teeth in any way, but it is strong enough to ensure the brackets will remain in position for the duration of the treatment. The brackets are connected using a wire, which guides the teeth into position. Regular check-up and readjustment visits to your orthodontist in Loughborough are required, to ensure the fixed metal braces are working as they should.

Metal fixed braces are the most highly engineered brace system available, accurately correcting your smile in a predictable time frame. The strength and structure of metal braces deliver optimal results compared to cosmetic options, and what you lose in aesthetics you gain in comfort. The low profile and smooth edges are great when considering treatment in children and lengthy treatment in adults.

This is something we can discuss in detail with you during your free consultation. We will assess your smile, understand your concerns and goals, and agree on the best treatment plan for you.
